Dementia  Awareness for carers 

This workshop is designed for family carers of people with Dementia. When a loved one is diagnosed with or starts to show signs of the condition, family members find it hard to understand or cope with unexplained behaviours which are usually out of character. This workshop provides an understanding of certain behaviours and how to deal or cope with them.

Please note: A medical explanation, the causes, or treatment of Dementia WILL NOT be covered.

  • The perspectives of people with dementia in order to understand feelings and address needs of the person cared for

  • The various ways in which people might be affected, and how to support people to achieve maximum independence

  • Recognise and address preventable factors contributing to the difficulties of people with dementia.

  • Explore the importance of knowing people with dementia as individuals

  • The best ways to communicate with people with dementia

  • Understanding and managing risk
